The Tao Of Jeet Kune Do

tao of JKD

By Bruce Lee

This is strongly recommended reading for senior students. The book is a collation of Bruce Lee's notes grouped under various headings and as such does not make for easy reading. Nevertheless, the words alone carry such passion and precision that alone have been known to lead to a breakthrough in training. Intermediate students may question the relationship between the content of this book and Fanchento (for example in regard to stance and vision awareness) however a discussion with your instructor will explain the connection.

This book used to be very difficult to get and it is only fairly recently with the advent of the internet and Amazon that it is so easily available and serious students are strongly urged to purchase a copy.

Zen in the Martial Arts

by Joe Hymes

zen in the martial arts by Joe Hymes

Zen in the Martial Arts is usually recommended to students who have been practicing for some times and wish to get a little more out of their training.

Martial Art training is of course a life changing experience and the more you delve into it the more richness it provides. This book gives an example of the kind of psychological, emotional and spiritual benefit that is possible to gain from training. The most valuable aspect of this is that it makes it clear that the responsibility is on you, the practitioner to to find how to grow from training and not on your instructor to make personal growth happen.

Other Products

There are a great many other products associated with our training, these include:

Training uniforms. Depending on your instructor these may be in the Chinese Kung Fu style of a light T Shirt and black training trousers, or the Ju Jitsu style of a heavy gi with Black trousers and a white top. Your instructor will suggest the best place to purchase these or provide them at a cost, depending on the country you are in.

Training Equipment. Fanchento makes use of a range of equipment, some of which will be provided by your instructor in classes and some of which you will need to purchase yourself especially if you would like to train outside of class times. These included:

  • strike pads (for hand strikes and sparking)
  • strike shields (for heavy kicking)
  • Heavy punch bags
  • Weapons (these range from batons an Bo's to fake knives and fake firearms)
  • and an other equipment your instructor feels is of value.
